Parents who live outside the boundaries of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District now have the opportunity to seek interdistrict transfers to enroll their children at SRVUSD schools. SRVUSD has streamlined the enrollment request process for eligible families who reside in other Bay Area communities, reducing the stress of finding a high-performing new school.

First, a family must obtain an interdistrict transfer approval document from its home school district. Second, if the student is in middle school or high school, SRVUSD will need to review transcripts, discipline records and attendance records from the previous school.

Transfer requests are approved based on space availability and a review of transcripts, discipline and attendance records.

In some cases, a family’s home school district will send the documentation to SRVUSD when a parent makes the transfer request. In a few other cases, the family will have to handle the paperwork.

Families interested in transferring their children to SRVUSD should check with their home school districts to begin the process.

SRVUSD is one of California’s top performing school districts. More than 98 percent of its students graduate from high school, and 95 percent of those grads plan to attend college, with 71 percent attending a four-year university. Student attendance rate is 97 percent at SRVUSD.

Academic success is a tradition at SRVUSD schools – a tradition well known to university admissions officers. In college placement exams, SRVUSD students rank exceptionally high, with 88 percent scoring 21 or higher on the ACT and 83 percent scoring 1,500 or better on the SAT.  Almost 40 percent of SRVUSD students enroll in Advanced Placement classes, and 88 percent earn at least a Grade 3 on AP exams.

The SRVUSD experience doesn’t stop at college preparedness. The district offers more than 450 sections of performing arts classes. And younger children are exposed to fun ways to learn, with a science lab and science classroom specialist available at SRVUSD elementary schools.

SRVUSD is built for success in the 21st century, with 100 percent of its classrooms and other learning spaces updated with wireless connectivity. The district has more than 6,400 Apple laptops for students, along with more than 3,000 PCs and over 2,000 Chromebooks. SRVUSD students also have access to more than 5,600 iPads and Android tablets.

SRVUSD has approximately 32,000 students in 36 schools, taught and cared for by 3,500 dedicated employees.

For questions about how families can apply for interdistrict transfers to enroll their children with SRVUSD, please visit http://www.srvusd.net/interdistricttransfers

or contact Student Services at (925) 552-5076.

Greetings Venture School Families,

Welcome to the Month of May!!!  Rains have given way to our predictable cool and foggy mornings, which then give way to warm afternoons. The warm temperatures mean that the end of school is near! The next five weeks and the end of the school year is always a busy time around Venture School as we finish up and prepare for graduation.

During the week of May 7th – 11th we are celebrating our Venture Teachers with Teacher Appreciation Week. Each and every day the Venture teachers provide a quality education for our students by offering inspiration, motivation, a kind ear and a caring heart. Hip Hip Hurray for our Venture Teachers!

The downside of the spring season is the pollen and allergies that presents many opportunities for distractions from academic studies and necessary coursework completion. With almost one month of school remaining (May-June), we ask that all of our students please be proactive with your teachers to check course progress (what has / hasn’t been completed) so that you are aware of your progress and course credits.  Please make sure you follow up on your grades, projects, homework, and due dates with your teachers.

For the month of May, we are continuing to highlight our 7th Venture school wide value: “Extraordinary: The Venture School community believes that every student is extraordinary and that lifelong happiness and success dwells in everyone.”

In Partnership,

State law gives families the option to transfer to a different school when there is space available. When schools have space, families can choose to transfer to another school within a district (intradistrict transfers) or to transfer to a school in another district (interdistrict transfers).

SRVUSD has moved up its intradistrict open enrollment window for elementary families. The open enrollment window for elementary schools is now open and closes on April 6, 2018. Families can find the link to the online intradistrict transfer request form and information about SRVUSD’s open enrollment/intradistrict transfer process at www.srvusd.net/transfers.

SRVUSD students will continue to have placement priority in our schools. However, after we place our resident students at their school of choice, because we now have space available, California law requires that we allow students from outside the district to apply to attend our schools (interdistrict transfers). Interdistrict transfers will only be accepted if there is space available. Students from outside the district must maintain acceptable academic performance, attendance and behavior. SRVUSD anticipates openings for interdistrict transfers students at nearly all SRVUSD schools.

Greetings Venture Families!

The month of March is the gateway to spring and the spring season will be very busy at Venture with the end of the 3rd Quarter (March 9), High School CAASPP testing: 11th & 12th Grades (March 19 – 23), Spring Break (April 2-6), Elementary and Middle School CAASPP Testing: 3rd – 8th Grades (April 16 - 20), and much more to come.

“In the wake of any dark tragedy, we must believe in humanity's inherent goodness more than we ever have before.  It is the only way the good can win.”- Unknown

Due to the recent senseless tragedy in Florida, there has been a national conversation about how schools protect and support students in case of an emergency. Venture School regularly conducts monthly standardized response protocol emergency / safety drills (Fire, Secure Campus, Earthquake, and Hazardous Material) that we rotate (type of drill and time of day) to ensure students and staff are familiar with the drill types and the appropriate responses. The drills are guided exercises with announcements that explain the appropriate expectations for student and staff response.  As well, our school’s Site Council reviews, and revises our School’s Safety Plan yearly to ensure student safety. We certainly welcome parents to join our monthly Site Council meetings to help address the needs of our students with school safety.

For the month of March, we are highlighting our 6th Venture school wide Value: “Recognizing: The Venture School community recognizes that students who take responsibility for themselves and others are well prepared for success and happiness.”

The district’s Personalized Learning Initiatives, PLI, will be taking effect in the upcoming school year. The SRVUSD has created a website with valuable information regarding each initiative. The website is http://www.srvusd.net/personalizedlearning.

With one quarter of school remaining (March – May), we ask that all of our students please be proactive with your teachers to check course progress (what has / hasn’t been completed) so that you are aware of your progress and course credits.  Please don’t allow time to get past you make sure you follow up on your grades, projects, homework, and due dates with your teachers.

Don’t forget to put your scholastic book orders in by March 26th! www.scholastic.com/bookclubs CODE: RK7F8

We are excited to host Words Matter week at Venture during the week of February 5th – 9th. Words Matter Week stresses the importance of our words and the power our words have to build up or bring down those around us. The SRV PTA website mentions that “ongoing dialogue inspires students, staff, and parents to be mindful of the words they choose in day-to-day conversations, not only during this week of awareness, but all year long.” Most important is to make the collective commitment to think before we talk and be mindful of how our words affect others.  To help remind our students of the importance of Words Matter week, we have FREE handmade Words Matter zipper pulls found at sign in computer that each student can take with them.

Jennifer Bering a Senior here at Venture School created her own way to help our community in need.

Her fundraiser is called Your Change Can Change A Life

"Throughout this past month while watching all of the terrible news about families losing everything they owned in the horrific fires, I felt the need to help our community in anyway I could. I talked with friends and family about what I could realistically do and really the only option was to volunteer. I realized on my own I couldn’t do much, but with the help of the students and faculty at Venture, the impact could be much greater than I had hoped for.

"With the help of Venture, I want to help a family get back on their feet. I thought if students volunteered to bring in change from home it could add up to potentially have a huge impact on a family’s life.

"Grateful Gatherings is a charity where you get assigned a family to help them furnish their home. The family is donated a house but still need help to furnish the inside. That’s where we come in. We would furnish their house to the best of our ability to make them feel at home.

"A few years ago I helped family friends with this same charity. We took all of the furniture, appliances, etc. that were collected and set-up their home while they were at lunch. The look on their faces when they opened the door was something I’ll never forget. I want to be able to do the same for another family.

"I have provided each teacher at Venture, as well as, the front lobby with collection jars.  You’ll have plenty of time to drop your change in them as I will not be picking them up until December 19th.

"Thank you for your generosity."

- Jennifer Bering
